The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to the Western Conference Finals!
After going up 2-0 against the Denver Nuggets in the 2nd round of the NBA Playoffs, The Nuggets rallied back to win the next three games in a row. Everyone (including myself) figured that it was over. After all, the Nuggets are the defending champions; they have the MVP on their team and all the momentum. But in game 6, the Wolves went out and dominated, winning by 45 points to force a game 7. The bad part was that game 7 was in Denver.
Things looked bad at halftime. The Wolves were down by 15 points, and in the third quarter, the Nuggets took a 20-point lead. At that point, I had just accepted our fate. It was an incredible run. We forced a game 7 against the defending champs and won a playoff series for the first time in 20 years. I was proud of what we had accomplished.
The Wolves, however, had other ideas. They staged a remarkable comeback, ending the third quarter on a massive run and slashing the lead to a single point. It was a nail-biting moment, and suddenly, Minnesota was back in this game. All they had to do was outscore them but two in twelve minutes to win the game, and not only did they do that, but they ended up winning 98-90 in an unbelievable turnaround.
History was rewritten in this game 7. The Wolves, down by 15 at halftime, shattered the previous record for the most significant game 7 comeback. No team had ever come back from a 20-point deficit in a game 7, but the Wolves defied expectations once again, etching their name in the glorious annals of NBA history.
The final four teams are set—the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers in the east, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Minnesota Timberwolves in the west. The winner of each series advances to the NBA Finals, a stage where the Timberwolves are just eight wins away from the ultimate glory, a championship title.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have proven to be a formidable force in the league. They are poised to be a dominant team for years with an all-time great defense and a roster filled with stars. The Wolves’ success echoes the Kevin Garnett era, promising a bright future for the team and its fans.
