In the early hours of Sunday, January 12th, just outside of Forest Lake, Cambridge-Isanti School District #911 Bus 102, containing the high school a capella choir “The Unaccompanied Minors,” collided with a car on Interstate 35 and W. Broadway St.
Fourteen choir members were returning from an A capella choir festival in Galesville, Wisconsin. You can listen to their performance here. The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m., when the bus collided with a car on the road with its lights off, causing the bus to go into the ditch.
The only injury out of the A capella choir was William Hovseth, who had a minor bloody nose. He has already made a full recovery. The driver of one of the cars was reportedly taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with minor injuries.
The group remained there until they were picked up by another school bus roughly an hour and a half later.
Superintendent Nate Rudolph described the incident, saying, “Our driver did a great job. There was an accident ahead of the bus. With the way the roads were, we were fortunate he missed most of it.”
Another source, Bring Me The News, claims that the incident involved a four-vehicle pile-up; firsthand sources assert that five vehicles were involved.
