As many of you probably don’t know, Cambridge-Isanti High School’s student council drove to Buffalo High School for Divsionals on February 26th, just a few weeks ago. We were welcomed with positive spirits and happy attitudes when we showed up. We met in the gym where Buffalo, Rockford, Fridley, and Chisago Lakes student councils were waiting. We started quickly and were introduced to our Divisional Officers- William (Chisago Lakes), Kate, Gabriel, Mya, and Audyn. Once the student Officers introduced themselves, the Buffalo High School Principal welcomed us all.
After all introductions were finished, all student council members were brought to the floor, and we did an Icebreaker, which was a few fun rounds of Would You Rather. This was a very fun icebreaker; everyone enjoyed it and was excited about what was next.
After the icebreaker, all student councils were numbered by twelve and put into groups to share ideas. During this time, everyone from every group shared activities their student council got their schools to do. We discussed many things like winter week activities, fundraising, spring events, teacher appreciation, mental health month, etc. After that, we all had a break to refresh and get back together to see what everyone’s group talked about. This activity was a very good way to see what other schools do to get their schools more involved. Once the break was over, we had our new candidates running for office to answer questions. There were nine candidates, and our candidates running from Cambridge-Isanti were Averee and Will. These questions consisted of how they would show leadership through their schools and our division. After the questionnaire, we had an incredible lunch.
Once lunch was over, we moved to their auditorium and started the elections for our new officers. We handed in our paper ballots and were introduced to our guest speaker, Nick Ingles.
Nick talked about many things that have significantly impacted his life. Some were when he was involved with more extracurricular activities he found out he had many different personalities. He kept us intrigued and got us thinking about our future and how we want to see ourselves a few years from now. After Nick was done speaking, we found out about our new Divisional Officers. We are proud to say that Will is one of those officers. Our student council gets to hold a divisional meeting next school year. This divisional conference was an amazing opportunity to hear about new ideas we can put towards our Cambridge-Isanti High School.
Our student council enjoyed meeting these fantastic leaders and learning new things. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend this divisional meeting.
