Maddie Jaques reflects on Girl’s Swimming Season

2018 was one of the best swim seasons that I have been a part of. We had our fair share of laughter and tears; overall it was a great season. Our first season meet was home on September 6th against Monticello and we swam hard, but we didn’t win. We did well at the Sholund Invite on October 13th and there were many tears shed at our parent/senior night on October 23rd. We won many of our away meets, including one of my favorite meets because we got Dairy Queen on the ride home. My coach Jen took the entire team to Dairy Queen on the bus ride home from Big Lake on October 16th.
Over the season, many of us improved our times. Personally, I beat my personal record (P.R.) in three events at the final meet of my season on October 26th. I swam the 200 medley relay (freestyle), 50 free, and 100 free; I ended up getting the Most Improved Award. Among the many great swimmers on our team. some of the best were Kendra Fanth, Molly Hennen, Rachel Nault-Maurer, Payton Larkin, Laura Cameron, Myranda Brogger, Abby Foss and many more. Kaia Kirkeide was one of our best divers and at one of our meets, she got an 8 on her dive, which is amazing because diving is really hard to train for. We also stayed pretty healthy throughout our season, with the exception of a few illnesses and injuries.
Jaques out.
