What a week the last week of March ended up being; some harsh weather kept plenty of kids stuck at home. The weather was so bad that we had the most significant snow event of the entire winter in 2023-24. Huge portions of Minnesota received up to 12 inches of heavy, wet snow. The snow and the rain occurred at the very same time. This combination of heavy snow and heavy rain is rare. Meteorologists say this storm has not occurred in the past 40-plus years.
Although the kids were at home with our e-learning days, the Snow Days have now been a thing of the past since the start of 2019. We all have to keep up with our classes and assignments online.
It was very unexpected to see the beautiful snow almost to the end of March. Some parents had a rough time even getting outside on foot.
On Cambridge Isanti news, they had changed more than once whether there would be a school day at the building. Monday was planned as an e-learning day, but Tuesday almost became a 2-hour late school day until it began snowing ice a lot more than the day before.
A student in the school said, “I saw the snow plow drive past my house every 3 hours” – O.A.
A Neighbor of mine said, “I would enjoy the weather if I had fewer kids running around” – H.J.
A good friend of mine said, “I had a good time at home other than the fact that I was stuck with my sister.” – L.
A buddy of mine said, “Even though school isn’t the most fun, I missed seeing my friends than just sitting bored at home.” – R.H.
I enjoyed the break a lot. I went on a wonderful field trip with a group of friends, which was fun. So, even though I was not in school, the teachers made it helpful online to get assignments done. I also had enough time to have my own free time. I’m so thankful that this school district is more useful in many ways than others. Of course, we have our differences and struggles, but in the end, it was lovely and nice to know that we were all safe at home.
Mr. Filley said the first day of Elearning was fine, but on Tuesday, it began to trigger feelings of the 2020 Pandemic. “It just seemed a little too familiar.” Other teachers agreed with his sentiment.
It’s kind of crazy that we are the generation that went through COVID-19, and it’s also sad that we will never have the special Snow Days without school again. With our fingers crossed, our amazing Snow Days without any school work may return to us again.
