On Oct 23rd, 2024, the CIHS Student Council went to fall divisions at Chisago Lakes High School. We started the day off by doing an icebreaker called Dude. The game is simple: everyone is given a card, and they are the only ones able to see their card. They then look at their card and have to interpret how they think their dude sounds. For example, a card could have a dudeāthe dude with a ghost, the dude with a robot, etc. We then split into teams based on name tag colors. We shared how our school handles things like communication with the admin, phone policies, and advertisements. We then had a break and did a couple of challenges; for instance, we did head, shoulders, knees, cup, and a mini-series where there were three people from each school. Each person had to wait for the person before they started their challenge. After that, we broke off into our group numbers on our name tags to discuss what student councils do for each event. For example,
- How we volunteer.
- How we show staff appreciation and.
- What do we do for winter dances (Sno Daze/Morp)?
Once we finished up with our small groups, we headed to the gym to have lunch. After lunch was finished, we had a motivational speaker (Rick Rassier)come and talk to us about taking things to the next level. He spoke about how important it is to have teamwork and to take initiative. He also mentioned that you should celebrate progress and never give up. We next played some games to help build communication and show that we can accomplish things better with some improvements and strategy. Some of the games included a baton race and a wiffle ball race. The baton race was where a variety of groups stood in a line. Each student had a baton and was trying to get a marble through them to the other end of the gym. This challenge is to show you that to be successful, you need to communicate and work together. The wiffle ball challenge was where one of three groups stood behind a lie and then had to toss a bunch of scattered wiffle balls into a bin quickly. These challenges showed that hard work and taking the initiative paid off. The last challenge was where 20 student volunteers had to do the fruit by the foot challenge. These students would have to unwrap a fruit by the foot and put it in their mouth, then use only their mouth to eat it the fastest. This is where our very own Xavier Stevens won this challenge and got a little gold medal. The CIHS Student Council had a great time, and we got some great recommendations/ideas on improving our school/student council and making it better for students and staff!
