Bluejacket gymnasts break long-standing vault record in consecutive weeks

Chad Swanson, Sports Writer

Recently, at CIHS, the gymnastics record for vault has been broken multiple times by two athletes. MollyAnn Harvey (junior) had set the new record when she was in 8th grade. The record stood for a few years, but through hard work and dedication she was able to break her own record again this year. The next competition her teammate, Madi Douglas, broke the record with a score of 9.625. Both athletes thanked their parents and credited their outstanding coaching staff on being able to compete and set records in the sport they love. Madi (former captain of the Bluejackets) described the relationship between the two as friendly competition. They continue to push each other in practice and each have individual goals to break the record again. They continue to work hard and push each other in practice everyday. Breaking that same vault record this season remains an individual goal for both gymnasts.

Along with the individual accomplishments of these athletes, the CIHS gymnastics team is consistently dominant year after year. Both Madi and MollyAnn stated that becoming conference champions and going to the state tournament are team goals this season. The athletic director at CIHS, Mark Solberg, would say these athletes and this team have been exceptional year in year out. As always, it’s a great day to be a Bluejacket.
