CIHS English teacher Mr. David Hanson has different options for extra credit in his class. He was very interested when ninth-grader Aurora Johnson asked if she could make a Shakespearean-styled dress.
After gaining Hanson’s permission, Aurora enlisted the help of her family friend (Kim), who is a seamstress. The dress took five days to create, and it included shopping for material, sewing, embellishment, and fittings.
“We had just studied Romeo and Juliet, and this dress is similar to the authentic dresses worn (in the past),” Hanson said, adding the dress has hearts and rose petals.
He also commented that this was well above and beyond most extra-credit projects. He kept the dress all day and displayed it for his other classes, and he was able to talk about it with the other students.
