On October 29, members of the CIHS Student Council traveled to Buffalo High School to attend the final East Divisional gathering. This event marked the end of the East Division, as student councils will now be joining the new Central Divisionals. More than 270 students from schools across the region came together to connect, share ideas, and plan for future events. The atmosphere was full of energy and excitement as students prepared to make new connections and learn from one another.
Throughout the day, students were divided into small groups where they played games and participated in fun icebreakers. These activities helped students from different schools get to know one another and build teamwork skills. One highlight of the event was a meaningful service project where each school created thank-you notes for veterans in honor of Veterans Day, which will be celebrated on November 11. The project reminded students of the importance of showing gratitude to those who have served their country.
In addition to games and service projects, students also took part in thoughtful group discussions. They talked about how their schools support mental health, shared fundraiser ideas, and discussed creative ways to advertise events and use social media to reach more students. Many students walked away with new ideas they could bring back to their own councils. The exchange of ideas helped everyone see how much student leaders can learn from one another when they work together.
After a buffet-style lunch from a Chipotle-like restaurant, the day ended with a powerful keynote speech. The speaker focused on the theme of overcoming hardships, reminding students that “we are either in the midst of an obstacle, or we are in between obstacles.” He encouraged everyone to stay persistent, no matter what challenges they face. His words left the group inspired and ready to take on future challenges with confidence and determination.
