BREAKING NEWS! What is this “Six Seven” trend? Is it a secret language? A dance? A magical spell? Is it just another opportunity for Mr. Woodbury to tell more dad jokes? Or simply Gen Alpha’s newest way to annoy anyone older than half of Gen Z and up? Honestly… nobody truly knows, and that’s precisely why it’s taking over the internet.
The “6–7” meme and slang term first slipped onto the scene in late 2024, but it absolutely exploded in 2025. Its biggest boost came in March, when a now-legendary viral video captured a young boy—forever known as the “6–7 kid”—shouting “SIX SEVEN!” with a dramatic hand gesture at an amateur basketball game. And just like that… chaos. Beautiful, unexplainable chaos.
Despite its vast popularity, “6–7” is basically nonsense. Its main purpose? An inside joke for those “in the know.” Which, apparently, is all of Gen Alpha and half of TikTok.
Gen Z vs. 6–7: We Were NOT Prepared
As a Gen Z human myself, I prayed this trend would die the day it was born. It was confusing, loud, and—let’s be honest—absolutely everywhere. Yet people still followed it, just like they did with the “floss dance,” except this time there’s no skill involved. You just yell numbers like you’ve discovered a new planet.
But unlike the floss, this trend has been going strong since September, and now it’s November. Four months. FOUR. And it only keeps growing stronger, like an unstoppable inside joke powered by chaotic children.
What Do People Think It Means? The Street Interviews:
I asked around to get some… professional insight.
Jacobe P.: “It means everything.”
(Thanks, Jacobe. Very helpful.)
Sierra H.: “It’s the purest joy in the world!”
She also insists that my new counter-trend, “8–9,” will never take off.
Little does she know it’s already becoming a retaliation move against Gen Alpha’s 6–7 domination. I will be the mastermind. Just you watch!
“Six–Seven” Has Reached Theater Kids… Now It’s Serious
You know a trend is out of control when it reaches live theater.
Recently, during our school’s production of
Prince of Egypt, someone slipped a sneaky “6–7” hand gesture into a dance as improv—and the little kids in the audience LOST THEIR MINDS. I’ve never seen children more excited about two numbers.
TikTok, Instagram, YouTube—everywhere you look, someone is editing a famous movie scene or celebrity clip to make them say “6–7.”
It’s wild.
It’s unhinged.
WHEN WILL IT END?!
Does Anyone Actually Know What 6–7 Means?
From what I’ve seen, nobody—including the generations before and after us—truly knows what “6–7” means because it MEANS NOTHING. NOTHING! But they love how dumb it is. They love how chaotic it feels. They love using it to annoy each other. Even grandparents are trying it out like it’s the newest slang on the block.
Some people accept it. Some people avoid it. Some people scream it at random moments in the hallway like they’re summoning a spirit.
Your Turn
So now, dear reader, I ask you:
What do YOU think “6–7” means? And do you think this massive, chaotic, unstoppable trend will ever end?
Because right now… It’s not looking like it.
